The Aurora Public Schools Board of Education is working with Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA), a qualified, collaborative, and experienced executive search firm to assist the Board in its search for a new superintendent. With the help of the search firm, we invite the entire Aurora Public Schools community to help the Board select a new superintendent for the start of the 2023-24 school year.

At a Special Meeting on January 24, 2023, the Board of Education met with HYA representatives to begin the superintendent search, including the development of a preferred superintendent profile, a specific timeline for community input, and an outline of the interview and selection process.

Aurora Public Schools Board of Education Hires Superintendent Search Firm

During its special meeting on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, the Board of Education interviewed the following three superintendent search firm finalists:

After each firm presented their proposals, the Board chose to hire Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA) to facilitate the search for the next Aurora Public Schools Superintendent. 

 

magnifying glass stock photoThe Aurora Public Schools Board of Education selected Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA),  a nationally recognized and qualified, collaborative, and experienced executive search firm, to assist the Board in its search for a new superintendent. The Board wishes to have a new superintendent selected for the 2023-24 school year. Mark Seglem is currently acting as Interim Superintendent for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year.

The Board is committed to a superintendent search process that is transparent, inclusive, collaborative, thorough, strategic and forward-thinking, organized and professional. 

Hiring a national search firm:

  • Ensures the involvement of multiple stakeholder groups throughout the community;
  • Focuses on collaboration, input and feedback;
  • Casts a wide net of highly qualified candidates from across the nation;
  • Provides the Board of Education with information needed to make an informed decision; and
  • Provides a springboard for the Board of Education and the incoming superintendent for planning and vision casting. 

Next Steps

The Board met with HYA representatives at a Special Meeting on January 24 to begin the superintendent search, including the development of a preferred superintendent profile, a specific timeline for community input, and an outline of the interview and selection process.

HYA posted the open superintendent position to the HYA website on January 27.

Over the coming weeks, HYA will be leading various focus groups and conducting an online survey to gather feedback from students, teachers, staff, families and community members. This feedback will be used to develop a leadership profile that will include desirable characteristics of the next Superintendent. Information about the focus groups and survey will be shared as soon as it is available. We encourage each of you to participate in a focus group and complete the survey. Your feedback is critical in the Superintendent search process and we thank you in advance for your participation.

  • Superintendent Search Firms present their proposals (RFP) to the Board.
  • The Board selects Superintendent Search Firm Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA).
  • The Board kicks off the Superintendent Search with HYA.

February 2023

  • HYA schedules focus groups for students, teachers, staff, families and community members to gather feedback.
  • HYA conducts an online survey to gather feedback from students, teachers, staff, families and community members.

March 2023

  • HYA presents its Leadership Profile to the Board, including the feedback they gathered from the focus groups and online survey.
